"James Durbano studied astronomy at the University of Toronto. After graduation, he taught physics and chemistry with the Toronto District School Board, before moving to Alberta. He has worked as a science educator at the Royal Ontario Museum, the Royal Tyrrell Museum, the Edmonton Space and Science Centre, Calgary SpacePort, TELUS World of Science - Calgary, and most recently at TELUS Spark. He was also the coordinator of astronomy education projects at the University of Lethbridge, in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency.

James is the owner and operator of the AstroDome Planetarium, as well as the Director of the Big Sky Observatory. He likes to photograph the sky and write about it too. He has contributed photos to SkyNews Magazine and written articles for Routes Magazine. In 2005, he was awarded one-hour of telescope time on the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope after winning a contest sponsored by the National Research Council."
