  Cheryl Houtekamer has worked with children, youth, families and communities for over 30 years. For the past 28 years she has fulfilled a variety of roles in youth addiction treatment and prevention, including counsellor, treatment supervisor, and health promotion facilitator. She has also worked with the AHS Provincial Addiction Prevention Unit as a Program Consultant. For the last 13 years she has supervised the Community Health Promotion Services team at Youth Addiction Services. She recently graduated with a master’s degree in Public Health specializing in health promotion. Cheryl presented a poster session on prevention of concurrent disorders at the 2016 22nd International Association for Children and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions, and again more recently at the 2017 Issues of Substance national addictions conference. She also contributed to the textbook Canadian Community as Partner, 4th edition. Cheryl sees teachers as one of her greatest allies in the prevention of addiction.
